7 Steps to Prepare for Your Remote Online Notarization
Remote online notarization (RON) allows you to electronically sign your documents while on an online video call with a Canadian notary public. With this service you’ll be able to notarize or commission your documents without leaving your home or office in as little as 15 minutes.
Since remote online notarizations take place completely electronically, it’s important to ensure that you have everything you need to breeze through the process. Here are a few steps you can take to prepare for your RON:
1. Gather Your Documents and ID
The primary job of your notary is to swear an oath, verify your identity and witness you signing legally binding documents, such as affidavits, statutory declarations, and digital certified true copies (documents original format must be digital, like E-bills.). When preparing for a remote online notarization appointment, make sure that your documents are in an electronic format– preferably as PDFs. Double-check to make sure that your ID is valid and keep a second piece on hand, just in case.
2. Choose the Number of Documents and an Appointment Time
Through NotaryPro’s online portal, you’ll be prompted to select the number of documents you need notarized and describe them. Don’t sweat the descriptions too much– entering the form number, title, and/or purpose is all you need. After you’ve completed that, you’ll be able to select when you would like to meet with your online notary via video call.
3. Upload Your Documents and ID
To streamline your RON booking, you’ll then be asked to upload your unsigned documents to be notarized. Ensure that each unique document has been saved as a separate PDF file. When uploading your ID, ensure that the photos you take are clear and well lit. This assists in the ID verification process.
4. Confirm Your Booking
Once all of your documents are uploaded, you complete your remote online notarization with a credit card payment. You’ll receive a confirmation email with a unique video meeting link that you’ll use on the day of your appointment.
5. On the Day of Your RON Appointment
Choose a quiet location where you won’t be interrupted. Since your session is remote, you’ll need a desktop, laptop, or tablet with a reliable Internet connection.
You’ll also need a camera, speakers, and microphone to easily see and speak with the notary. These tech requirements ensure that your notary can properly identify you and communicate with you throughout the process.
6. Join Your Remote Online Notarization Appointment
Click on the video link in your confirmation email at your appointment time to join the call. Here, your notary will meet with you and confirm your identity and the documents that require notarization.
7. Sign Your Documents
You and your notary will sign your documents using our RON API. Once you’ve completed the signing, your documents will be emailed back to you instantly. And you’re all done!
